About Course

Welcome to our unit on using seasonal and local produce in schools.

Why do some fruits and vegetables taste better in certain months? Why does buying local matter? In this module, we’ll dig into the tasty world of seasonal eating, learning about how the time of year affects the flavour, freshness, and cost of fruits and vegetables. We’ll also look at why choosing local, in-season foods isn’t just good for our taste buds, but great for the planet and local communities too, including the schools we work in!

When schools serve seasonal and locally sourced meals, students enjoy fresher, more delicious food – while also supporting local farmers, cutting down on environmental impact, and often saving money.

Let’s explore how making smart and in season food choices throughout the year can nourish students and support a more sustainable food system for everyone.
