School Food Service
Supporting school communities to thrive!
School Food Matters is a not-for-profit organisation that works to improve the food and nutrition environment in schools across Tasmania. We want to ensure that every child has access to nutritious and delicious food while at school, which is essential to their overall health, wellbeing, and learning.
School Food Matters works with schools throughout Tasmania to promote best practice for school food service management and a whole school approach to eating well.
SmartFood Program
Through our SmartFood Program, schools are supported to achieve one of four levels of accreditation. School Food Matters have also developed School Food Plans to assist schools in creating a whole school approach to eating well.
The program continues to be a valuable and well received program within Tasmanian schools with 80% of schools with a food service participating.
School Food Plans
A School Food Plan can be used to map what currently occurs in food delivery in your school. It will help set goals and identify the enablers, and the barriers to achieving those goals around food in your school.
Product Guide
School Food Matters encourage school food services to offer mostly GREEN foods on the menu. Many of these foods don’t have a label. Examples of GREEN foods include fruits, vegetables, unprocessed meats, plain milk, pasta, rice and bread.
School Lunch Project
The School Lunch Project (SLP) provides a solution for providing food for all children through a healthy hot lunch impacting children’s health and wellbeing as well as their educational outcomes. This is of benefit for all our Tasmanian families and children.
